• Settling Process

Settling into child care can be daunting for children and parents alike. We aim to make this process as seamless and as exciting as possible, but there are a few things you can do to help your child settle into their day at Fern Gully Child Care Centre.

    Drop Off & Pick Up

Children must be dropped off to the centre by a responsible adult, and handed over to the care of a staff member. We request that your child arrive at the centre as early as possible on the mornings they attend the centre. This will ensure that your child is able to experience the full benefits of our program.

The educators will help you decide the best process for when, and how, to separate from your child. Some helpful tips for drop off include:

    • Say your goodbyes and assure your little one you will be back.
    • Do not 'sneak' away in an attempt to avoid tears. Your child may become more distressed when they realise you have left suddenly.
    • If you're concerned about your child after leaving, you can call the Room Leader to check how your child has settled.

A child can only be picked up from the centre by a parent. If you have organised for someone else to collect your child, you must notify the centre in writing. This person must be listed as an authorised person on your child's enrolment form.

You must notify staff of ALL absences - planned and unplanned.

    Helping Hand

If you are concerned about your child settling in to child care, here are a few helpful tips to help your child settle in smoothly:

    • Be confident when dropping them off - this helps put your child at ease.
    • Make sure they have their 'security item', e.g. favourite teddy, blanket or toy.
    • Let your child know when you are going, and when you will be coming back.

All children are different - some children may settle with ease, while others may take time adjusting. It is important that you remain patient and calm with your child.
